Efforts to better utilise 2D materials continue. In their latest study published in “Acta Materialia”, our physicists examined unique structures just three atoms thick: molybdenum disulphide (MoS₂) and tungsten disulphide (WS₂). By applying a graphene layer, they aimed to determine how the physical properties of these structures would change.

A team of researchers from the Faculty of Chemistry at Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) has developed the first ambipolar Organic Electrochemical Transistor (OECT) fabricated via electropolymerisation, capable of operating in aqueous environments. Their unconventional approach enables the direct formation of thin, hydrophilic semiconducting layers within the transistor channel—a significant advancement in organic electronics.

Natalia Izbeska was the winner of the 1st edition of the competition Three Minute Thesis® at the Warsaw University of Technology, funded by the IDUB programme. During her presentation, she talked about her doctoral thesis. Izdebska is working on increasing the capacity of batteries based on bivalent metals (Mg, Ca) through the use of electrolyte additives.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digitalisation Krzysztof Gawkowski appointed new members of the NASK Scientific Council. Professor Krzysztof Szczypiorski is among the experts who have joined the Council from the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology at the University of Warsaw (WEiTI). Professor Szczypiorski is head and co-founder of the Division of Cybersecurity at the Institute of Telecommunications at WEiTI, co-founder and head of the POB Research Centre for Cybersecurity and Data Science at WUT, as well as head of the MBA Cybersecurity Management postgraduate programme at the WUT Business School.

A research team consisting of scientists from the Warsaw University of Technology and the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) has begun work on the identification of metabolic and structural changes in tissues of overloaded joints in sport horses. In the future, research findings may help to prevent the occurrence of osteoarthritis (OA).

An interdisciplinary team from the Warsaw University of Technology has begun work on the concept of creating a network of smart devices (equipped with IoT technology) on our Central Campus. One such device will be a "smart lantern," equipped with a set of sensors, actuators, and systems for communication with other similar devices. Implementing this solution will provide users of the WUT campus with various conveniences, such as reducing light pollution.
