Thanks to co-funding from IDUB, Metal Structures Student Research Group has organised a construction competition addressed to students of construction, architecture and mechanical engineering, as well as high school students.
The contestants work to design and construct a girder with a spread of a minimum of 2 metres, made from pine wooden profiles, whose total weight may be no higher than one kilogram. The competition featured the following categories: the maximum load (division into teams consisting of university and high school students), the aesthetics of the structure and the most accurate estimation of the girder deflection by the team.
Over 80 people participated in the competition, which took place at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology on 11 April 2025.
Results:
The winner in the category “Aesthetics” was the “Biłgoraj-Bud” team (Szymon Góra and Karol Góra from the Complex of Building and General Education Schools in Biłgoraj) with 19 votes for the girder.
In the category “Predicted Load Capacity” the winning team was “Biłgoraj-Bud” (Szymon Góra and Karol Góra from the Complex of Building and General Education Schools in Biłgoraj), with the real load capacity to declared capacity ratio equal to 1.03.
In the category “The Most Economical RFEM Girder” the winner was the “Wood Szczęścia” team (Alina Maria Dyjak, Izabela Borodziuk and Paweł Pachla from the Warsaw University of Technology).
In “The Maximum Load” category the winners were the following university students:
In the category “The Maximum Load” the winners were the following high school students:
